Egress Windows: Tops Performing Projects List
March 8, 2009
According to Remodeling Magazine, window installation and replacement continues to offer the most consistent return for the money. In a down economy, replacing or adding energy efficient windows is a wise investment. It not only adds value, but the money you save on your heating and cooling bills can pay for the entire project in a few short years. Jane Paulus, of Edina Realty, in Edina, Minn., agrees. “With the rising cost of energy, these updates are essential” to saving money every month, she says. “There’s a necessity attached to [these projects] that isn’t there with larger projects.”
Egress windows have the added benefit of making a basement “habitable living space,” which is required by the State of Minnesota to count your basement in the finished square footage of your home when you go to sell or refinance. Additionally you can not have a legal or safe bedroom in a basement without an egress window.

Got something to say?
Its a hard decision to spend any money right now but putting it back into your house lets it pay you back later. You get to enjoy the extra light and more usable space and then when you sell the house you get the cash return on your investment.
